India was asked to bat by Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in a pitch favourable for pace bowling. Bangladesh took early wickets and India was three-wicket for 34 runs on the board in 9.2 overs.
R Pant and Y Jaiswal built a 62-run partnership but Bangladesh struck back resulting in India lost six-wicket for 144 runs.
Then comes the match-winning partnership for team India. R Ashwin and R Jadeja scored 199 runs for the 7th wicket. R Ashwin completed his century before the end of Day-1 play. Jadeja remained unbeaten for 86 runs.
Jadeja got out on an overnight score at the start of play on Day 2. India was eventually bowled out for 376 runs in their first innings. Hasan Mahmud grabbed a five-wicket. Taskin Ahmed took three wickets and one wicket each for N Rana and MH Miraz.
In reply, Bangladesh struggled throughout their first innings. J Bumrah gave India a breakthrough in the first over of Bangladesh’s innings. Bangladesh lost wickets in regular intervals and bowled out in the end for 149 runs on the board.
Bumrah grabbed 4 wickets. Siraj, Akash, and Ravindra grabbed important wickets. India was able to take the crucial 227-run lead in the 1st innings.
Rohit was dismissed early in the 2nd innings as well. India tried to score quick runs and lost three wickets for 67 runs. Then comes the Centurian of the Indian second innings. Gill and Pant added 167 runs. R Pant scored his 6th hundred in the test cricket. Before getting out he scored 109 runs.
S Gill completed his century and KL Rahul played a quick cameo. Rohit declared the Indian Innings when India was 287/4. India set a target for 515 runs in the 4th innings for Bangladesh.
In response, Bangladesh started brilliantly in their 2nd innings. Bangladesh made an opening stand for 62 runs before Bumrah got the breakthrough for India.
Chasing 515 runs in the 4th innings was a daunting task for Bangladesh. The pitch deteriorated on Day 4 and the pitch offered plenty of help for Indian spinners.
R Ashwin who was wicket-less in the first innings grabbed six wickets. R Jadeja took three wickets. In the end, India beat Bangladesh by 280 runs.
Bangladesh came to India after beating Pakistan 2-0 in test cricket. Bangladesh’s coach was confident that his team could beat India in India. Eventually, India became victorious as expected. Now, it’ll be interesting to see Bangladesh’s mindset in the Nagpur Test.
