IPL Mega Auction 2025 – Retention Rules
The meeting was held on Saturday, and substantial changes were made to the rules. Everyone was eyeing the number of players who could be retained by each franchise (capped and uncapped players).
Now, Each franchise can retain a maximum of six players before the IPL Mega Auction 2025 happens. Out of six players, a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players can be retained by each franchise.
Case 1: If KKR retained one uncapped player then they will have the option to retain five capped players.
Case 2: If KKR retain two uncapped players then they will be able to retain only four capped players and so on.

IPL Mega Auction 2025 – Retired Indian Players can be retained as uncapped players
IPL GC also clarified that Indian players who retired from International cricket (Test, ODI, & T20I) or don’t have a central contract with BCCI can be retained as uncapped players. The player needs to retire from international cricket five years before the IPL Mega Auction 2025 takes place.
Case 1: If CSK wants they can retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player. Dhoni retired from international crickets (all formats) long back. In this scenario, MS Dhoni is eligible to get four crores for the season if retained as uncapped player.
IPL Mega Auction 2025 – Impact Player Substitute remains in action till IPL 2027
There were debates among franchises, players, and cricket experts regarding the ‘impact player Substitute’. Many believe that it hampered Indian the allrounder. Players like Rohit Sharma also spoke about it. But the final decision has been made.
After all those debates over the ‘Impact Sub Rule’, IPL GC clarified that the impact player rules will be retained for the IPL season 2025-2027. The majority of the franchise owners gave a positive sign to carry forward with impact sub rules.
IPL 2025 – Match fee is introduced
IPL introduced a new feature for players in the most thrilling T20 leagues across the world. Now, Players will get the benefit of receiving a match fee of Rs. 7.5 Lakhs per match. Players will get an additional Rs. 1.05 crores plus his contracted amount if they play all league matches.
This will be fascinating for the players and the franchise has to arrange an additional Rs. 12.60 crores as match fee in IPL 2025. Jay Shah tweeted that the IPL and its players will enter a new era.
IPL Mega Auction 2025 – Franchise’s purse increased to INR 120 Crores
A huge hike in the purse of all the franchises in the IPL 2025. Now, the pulse value will be INR 120 crores instead of 90 crores (IPL Mega Auction 2022). A massive increase of 33.33% in the purse value means players will be benefited financially.
Retention money will be deducted from the purse value before entering the IPL Mega Auction 2025. Let us find out all the scenarios:
Case 1: If Mumbai Indians Franchise want to retain all the six options available i.e. five capped players and one uncapped player then as per mentioned above INR 79 crores will be deducted from INR 120 crores. This means MI will enter the 2025 IPL Mega Auction with a purse value of 41 crores.
Case 2: If Mumbai Indians Franchise want to retain three capped players and 2 uncapped players then total fund involvement will be 51 crores. Then MI will enter the 2025 IPL Mega Auction with a purse value of 69 crores.
IPL Mega Auction 2025 – RTM reinstated
The most interesting ‘Right-to-Match (RTM) has been reinstated in the upcoming IPL Mega Auction 2025 but with a twist. Now the highest bidder will have the opportunity to bid once again to raise the price against RTM.
Suppose Kolkata won the highest bid for Rohit Sharma for 20 crores. Then Mumbai who won the player previously have the right to use RTM. If Mumbai used the RTM against the highest bid now there is a twist in 2025. KKR will be allowed to raise its bid.
Case 1: Kolkata won the highest bid for Rohit and Mumbai didn’t use RTM, then Rohit will be sold to KKR for INR 20 Crore.
Case 2: If Mumbai want to use the RTM then Kolkata will be allowed to raise its bid. If Kolkata doesn’t want to raise its bid, then Rohit will be sold to Mumbai for INR 20 crore against RTM.
Case 3 Let Kolkata raise the bid once again to 22 crores. Then Mumbai have to pay 22 crores if they use RTM. If Mumbai is ready to pay the newly bid amount then Rohit will be sold to Mumbai otherwise to Kolkata.
