Rahul Dravid was grateful that Rohit urged him to extend his coaching tenure post – 2023 ODI WC final loss. Dravid stated that Rohit called him over the phone in November. Rohit motivated him to continue his term as India’s head coach. Dravid pointed out that, as coach and captain of the Indian team, they had to have conversations regularly.

Rahul Dravid has been part of many ICC events as a player. Dravid won’t forget 2023 ODI WC final loss. However, India lost the WC Final against Australia. His time as India’s captain came to an end after India was eliminated from the 2007 ODI WC in the group round. He wasn’t part of the 2011 ODI Cricket WC winning squad.
He retired from all forms of cricket and he was considered one of the best batsmen in cricket history. But he was disappointed not to win any ICC trophy for India during his playing days. In November 2021, he became India’s head coach and remained committed to achieving the ICC trophy for nearly three years.
Under his coaching, team India lost the 2023 WTC final against Australia in England. The focus then shifted towards the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. India performed brilliantly in the tournament and remained unbeaten until the final. India once again lost to Australia in another ICC final.
After the 2023 ODI WC he had no plans to remain as India’s head coach. At this point, Rohit Sharma Captain of India came forward and urged him to continue pursuing as head coach until 2024 T20 WC. Rahul Dravid acknowledged this point in his farewell speech in the Indian dressing room.
