Pakistan’s humiliating loss against England in the first test match put them at the bottom of the WTC points table. Pakistan lost the test match by an innings and 47 runs after scoring 550 plus runs in the first innings. In a three-match test series against England, they’re behind by 0-1.
A fresh selection committee was formed after the Multan Test defeat. The committee has made a couple of changes in the squads for the second and third test against England. They have excluded Babar, Shaheen, Naseem, and Sarfaraz from the squads.
The selection committee stated that they have excluded a couple of players due to their form, fitness and Pakistan Team’s upcoming commitments in the 2024-25 international cricket season. However, we may guess the actual reason behind these strong decisions.
Babar Azam has been unable to score a single half-century in a Test since 2022. Shaheen Shah Afridi lost his capacity to take wickets in the Test matches. Babar resigned from the role of captain after Pakistan was knocked out of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the group phase.
England’s former skipper, Michael Vaughan criticised the decision of dropping Babar Azam. He stated on X that unless Babar had solicited a break, his exclusion was an imprudent decision by the PCB.
The second Test match will begin on October 15, 2024, at Multan on the same pitch. Pakistan and England have already announced their playing XI for the second Test match. Both teams are going with a heavy side.
