Why did Virat Kohli not join the Indian team that departed for New York for the 2024 T20 World Cup?
The BCCI had said that players whose IPL franchises would fail to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs would leave for New York on May 25. This includes ten players from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. On May 25, the first batch of players from India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad left for New York. Virat Kohli did not join the Indian team, but Mohammed Siraj, a teammate from Royal Challengers Bangalore, did.
Virat Kohli requested to BCCI to extend his post-IPL break after a heart-breaking loss in the Eliminator of IPL 2024. BCCI accepted his plea and scheduled his visa appointment for a later date. Virat Kohli is expected to leave for New York on May 30. As a result, he will miss the game against Bangladesh on June 1.

Rohit Sharma-led Indian team along with a few players departed from Mumbai for New York
India T20i Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid flew out to the United States ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. A few players accompanied by batting coach Vikram Rathour joined the first batch who left for the T20 World Cup. The players who travelled with the first batch are included –

Hardik Pandya, Yuzi Chahal and Sanju Samson were supposed to be among the first group of players to depart for New York late on Saturday evening. But, for personal reasons, they did not travel on that day. Samson informed the BCCI of his delay in travelling for the T20 World Cup 2024. Samson has some personal work in Dubai as per the report.
India will start their ICC T20I World Cup 2024 campaign on June 5
India’s T20I World Cup 2024 campaign will begin on June 5 against Ireland at the recently built NCI Cricket Stadium in New York, USA. The next match of India against the arch-rival Pakistan is on June 9 at the same venue. Later, India will play against co-hosts the United States on June 12, and Canada on June 15.
